Base run – 3.68 miles, avg pace 9:04mile/min

I’ve been suffering the last couple of days with shin splints. I thought Sunday’s run wasn’t too bad, but I must have been really heel striking.

I videoed myself before my run today, and this defnitely confirmed I was heel striking. The good news is that I’m landing closer to m centre of gravity, so at least I’m making good improvements towards midfoot landing under my centre of gravity.

Anyway, today’s run wasn’t bad. Having seen the video I made every effort to take short quick strides. I could tell when I had got this right, as it felt like I was being pulled forward along the road – almost tipping over.

I’ve had a good stretch after the run, and also iced my shins. Touch wood… I feel absolutely fine at the moment!

I also treated myself today. I went shopping and bought a nice Nike Dry-Fit top, and my wife bought me a Timex Ironman watch (as it’s my birthday next Friday). I’ll post reviews once I’ve had a chance to use them both.

What to do next...

I’m having the opposite effect here, i have a running coach who is trying to get everyone to aim for mid forefoot running – but the causes my shin splints to flair up even more.
