My running orthotics have yet again been tweaked!
I think today was about the 4 time I’ve gone back to see my podiatrist to tweak my running orthotics.
Each time has made a difference, so let’s hope this is the last time I have to see her. She probably hopes that that’s the case, as I paid her £120 up front – which included the initially consultation, the making of the orthotics, and then all the follow ups.
She did say the first time I saw here though that it wouldn’t be a case of just getting the orthotics and being completely happy with them straight away.
Anyway, today i explained that the right orthotic just didn’t feel right, and that it just felt too hard against the arch of my foot. So, she beveled the side down and let me try them again. Now the right one was too hard just behind the ball of my foot. So she beveled some more, and hey-presto, the right now practically feels identical to the left.
I was concerned that the orthotics had started to go too soft, but she clearly showed me that the arches are as still hard as they were when new. The rest of the orthotic is certainly getting more malleable though… which a least means they go in and out of my shoes easier.
I also had a chat to her about the shin pain and possible shin splints I’m getting. She suggested I try some heel raises, so she cut out some rubber-like material for me to try. She gave me 2 sets of two for each shoe. As soon as I put these in my trainers my feet just felt right. So, fingers crossed – they may also sort the whole feet out.
So, the upshot is… I’ve now got two comfortably fitting orthotics for running, and some heel raises which may also help reduce the achilles tendon pain and the shin pain.
What to do next...
