Could this cure my achilles tendonitis and calf pain?
Although I’ve been very happy with my foam roller and in particular the exercise I do with it for relieving my calf pain and achilles tendonitis, I’ve still been experiencing tight achilles tendons for the first 5 or so minutes each morning. This has probably been exacerbated by my continuing efforts to move to a forefoot/midfoot footstrike.
After some searching on the web I discovered a company called Trigger Point Performance Therapy who make products that specifically target conditions like achilles tendonitis and calf pain. These products replicate the feeling of a thumb being pressed in to the muscle like during a sports massage. They basically look like they behave like very efficient foam rollers.
Now, these things aren’t cheap, but after some further research and a fair sized dose of impulse reaching for the credit card I placed an order. I went for the full package… costing around the £125 mark (including the 17 page book for runners).
Hopefully I should receive everything in about 5 days… so look out for the full reviews on this site.

I have found exactly the same problem. I have flat feet anyway and got some fairly inflammed achilles tendons some years ago after a lot of hill running. After getting orthotics made to measure and a very long break, I started again some 6 months ago with no pain. It was all going well until I started wearing less structured (minimum stability) shoes and working on the forefront foot strike. Within 10 days of this (working up slowly mind you), I have very swollen tendons again which I am having to ice. I am very keen not to lose my fitness with another long break so am keen to hear any thoughts on what I can do to rehabilitate myself quickly.
